Video Editing's Kinda Hard, So I'm Making A Podcast Instead

This was written for the University subject, BCM114.

NOTE: The title of this post is a joke (kind of).

OK, I enjoy making videos, but the actual process itself? It's time consuming, as it should be, if you want to make anything good.

When I first thought of something I wanted to make as my digital artifact, my pre-existing channel felt like the best place to start. And the content I wanted to and still want to make?

Video Essays.

I made a post about this quite a few months ago on the video essays I enjoyed and why I loved them.

But after uploading my first attempt at a video essay, my "TheSunVanished" video, I learned something very quickly.

This is going to be really time-consuming.

This is the timeline for "TheSunVanished" video. It took me the better part of 7-8 hours to complete (which doesn't include the script writing, breaks etc. etc. etc.)

Somehow, I missed this. Somehow, I didn't think of how difficult it would be to consistently make complexly edited essays on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.

So, I FEFO'd. I failed early, in that I came to a realisation and a new idea.

The realisation: I want to make video essays, but they are time consuming to make on a regular basis.

The new idea: I already had a podcast, ready to be recorded, and a friend who was willing to record it with me.

So here's the new and improved plan: make video essays occasionally, but focus on developing the podcast more.

So although I'm a bit disappointed, I'm glad that I'm ideating and conceiving new ideas for my channel and that I'm not just locking myself in to one form of video content.

I still want to find some way to integrate my methodology, but I'm guess we're going to have to wait and see.
